Dr. Ken Iida and Professor Yusuke Hashimoto of Osaka Metropolitan University analyzed the incidence of osteochondritis dissecans in cases of discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) in children under 15. They found that surgery for osteochondritis dissecans was successful in most cases, but there was a risk of recurrence, especially in younger patients. They recommend considering conservative treatment for children under 9 with DLM and osteochondritis dissecans. This study highlights the importance of careful consideration in treating DLM cases with joint disorders, as surgery may not always be the best option, especially in younger patients.
