The human nose is not sensitive enough for reliable diagnostics, but a new artificial ‘nose’ inspired by smell can detect diseases and hazardous gases using existing antenna technology. Antennas can be used for more than just communication and can function as sensors, eliminating the need for multiple sensors in traditional electronic noses. This antenna sensor can accurately distinguish between gases with a 96.7% accuracy rate, even with challenging compounds like isomers. The technology has potential for detecting diseases by analyzing volatile organic compounds. Unlike trained dogs, the antenna sensor is easy to use and does not require specialized training.
