A new exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland celebrates the contributions of community midwives in Ireland during the early 20th century. The exhibition, titled ‘Mary Anne Fanning: Remembering Our Community Midwives’, showcases the work of Mary Anne Fanning and other midwives and nurses from different counties in Ireland. It features objects such as Fanning’s 124-year-old midwifery bag used during the 1916 Rising, medical instruments, and personal memorabilia. The exhibition highlights the evolution of midwifery in Ireland over the years and invites visitors to reflect on the role of midwifery in Irish communities. The exhibition will run until March 2025.
