Many female International Medical Graduates from Pakistan and Sudan move to Ireland with families. A large percentage of doctors in Ireland are International Medical Graduates, with many being females. Female IMGs from countries with strong family support systems face challenges in Ireland due to lack of affordable childcare and household help. This leads to a stressful work-home balance, causing some female IMGs to consider quitting their careers. The government and HSE should make efforts to support these female IMGs, such as establishing childcare facilities in hospitals, priority admissions for their children, flexible working hours, and compassionate leave. Dr Sunder Mehran Khan and Dr Afshan Afshan propose these solutions to improve the work-life balance for female IMGs in Ireland.
