The England and Wales High Court recently dealt with a case where the father of a 16-month-old boy in care sought permission for the child to be circumcised. The child’s parents were separated, with the father of Lebanese Muslim heritage and the mother of white British heritage. The court considered the child’s welfare, medical evidence, and opinions of all parties involved. Ultimately, the judge decided that it was not in the child’s best interest to be circumcised at such a young age. The decision was made to defer any decision on circumcision until the child is mature enough to understand and consent to the procedure.
