The TASTE-2 trial tested a combination of edaravone and dexborneol for the treatment of acute stroke and found that patients showed significantly improved function at 90 days compared to those who received a placebo. The study involved 1362 patients and showed higher rates of functional independence in the treatment arm. Previous trials also showed positive results with the combination therapy. The treatment was safe, with no increased safety concerns, and may be used in conjunction with endovascular thrombectomy or intravenous thrombolysis. Despite moderate benefits, the drug combination was considered safe and clinically meaningful. The study was funded by Simcere Pharmaceutical Group Limited.
