Positive psychology interventions, such as the Best Possible Self intervention, were tested in a study with fibromyalgia patients to see if they improved mood and optimism. The results showed that while there were some improvements in positive affect and optimism, there were no significant differences in pain-related measures or future expectations between the intervention group and the control group. The study had limitations, such as a small sample size and high attrition rate. However, the study demonstrated that positive mental health interventions can be effective for chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia, suggesting potential benefits for incorporating such interventions into pain management protocols.
