A recent study conducted by Cleveland Clinic researchers found that individuals who have had COVID-19 are at a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes for up to three years. The study analyzed data from over 200,000 individuals and found that the risk of cardiovascular disease remains elevated, especially for those with severe infections or pre-existing heart conditions. Additionally, the study revealed that people with blood types A, B, or AB are twice as likely to experience adverse cardiovascular events after COVID-19 compared to those with blood type O. The findings suggest the importance of considering prior COVID-19 infection when formulating cardiovascular disease prevention plans.
