ASN President Deidra C. Crews emphasized the need to address social disparities among patients with kidney disease to improve care standards at ASN Kidney Week in San Diego. Collaborations with federal agencies and specialty groups have helped increase funding, improve policy, and enhance education and training. Clinical research is being used to address disparities in kidney health, with advancements in understanding kidney diseases and finding treatment options. ASN is working to redefine the standard of care in kidney health through initiatives such as removing race from eGFR equations and providing guidance on screening, detection, and treatment. More advocacy and funding for kidney research are needed to improve outcomes for patients.
