A new research project led by the University of Galway, funded by €1.1 million in EU grants, will investigate the early pathological processes driving neurodegeneration, with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Kasia Whysall and Dr. Leo Quinlan will lead the collaborative project in partnership with institutions in Poland, Italy, and Turkey. The project aims to understand the complex mechanisms of neurodegeneration and explore potential interventions, with a particular focus on targeting gene regulation and enzyme function. The ultimate goal is to improve early detection, develop effective treatments, and enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by neurodegenerative disorders.
