A total of 92 cases of measles have been reported in Ireland this year, with 13 outbreaks resulting in between two and twelve confirmed cases each. The outbreaks have occurred in households, extended families, schools, residential institutions, hospitals, and the community. The HSE established a measles incident management team in response to the surge in cases in the UK and Europe. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reported a total of 17,273 measles cases in 30 European countries in a 12-month period. The MMR vaccine catch-up programme has been established by the HSE to target children, young adults, healthcare workers, and underserved populations.
