Researchers conducted a study to assess the effectiveness of risk stratification tools in helping general practitioners evaluate chest pain and rule out acute coronary syndrome. The study included a systematic review of 14 studies involving adult patients with chest pain in primary care settings. Clinical decision rules without troponin showed some improvement in safety, but none outperformed unaided general practitioner judgment. Conventional troponin tests were found to be less reliable, while high-sensitivity troponin tests showed promise but require further validation before widespread use. The findings suggest that while high-sensitivity troponin tests hold potential, they are not yet ready to replace clinical judgment in primary care.
