While the UK’s MHRA has taken a cautious stance, the European EMA’s findings of a potential increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders are inconclusive due to methodological limitations. The review authors suggest that the restrictions on valproate use in men should be reconsidered based on this evidence. More research is needed to better understand the reproductive implications of taking antiseizure drugs in men.
