Older age, male sex, and seropositivity are risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis– interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) with a usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern, while only seropositivity is associated with RA-ILD with a nonspecific interstitial pneumonia pattern (NSIP). A study analyzed data from two cohorts to identify these risk factors in different RA-ILD subtypes, including RA-UIP and RA-NSIP. The study found that RA-UIP was associated with older age, male sex, and seropositivity, while RA-NSIP was only significantly associated with seropositivity. Nonfibrotic ILDs were linked to smoking and seropositivity. Understanding these risk factors can inform screening and prognostication strategies for RA-ILD.
