Most patients with chronic hand eczema suffer from corticosteroid phobia

admin

A study found that 75.5% of patients with chronic hand eczema fear using topical corticosteroids despite not being able to name any risks associated with them. This fear, known as corticosteroid phobia, can lead to poor treatment adherence, worsened disease outcomes, and increased use of alternative medicine. The study included 927 patients in Denmark and found that 77.9% of patients stopped their corticosteroid treatment as soon as possible, and 54.8% delayed treatment until absolutely necessary. Addressing patients’ fears and concerns about corticosteroid use is crucial for improving treatment outcomes and adherence.
