At the European Society of Cardiology Congress in London, findings were presented showing that catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) significantly reduces symptoms and improves quality of life compared to a sham procedure. The study compared pulmonary vein isolation ablation with a placebo procedure in patients with symptomatic AF. Results showed a reduction in AF burden and improvements in quality of life measures, with the ablation group experiencing greater benefits. The study concluded that catheter ablation is an effective treatment for symptomatic AF and should be considered without hesitation. This research fills an important evidence gap in the field of AF treatment.
