However, there are concerns about the rushed timeline and lack of support for trainee research projects. Collaboration with University Departments of General Practice and including academic professionals in Directing Teams could enhance the quality of research. Encouraging trainees to start their research projects earlier and providing adequate support could lead to more productive and beneficial outcomes for trainees, training practices, and the health system. The progress made in GP Trainee Research over the past two decades should be built upon in the future to further benefit all involved.
