The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has highlighted the need for increased funding and resources in the health system to address persistent issues such as medical staffing shortages and inadequate bed capacity. The union called for targeted measures to support general practice and increase the number of consultants and non-consultant hospital doctor training posts. They also emphasized the importance of public health campaigns to address social media harms and vaccine hesitancy. The IMO’s key calls for Budget 2025 include replacing private care income with government funding, funding the Acute Hospital Bed Capacity Expansion Plan, investing in electronic health records, supporting independent GP contractors, and increasing the number of consultants and training posts.
