The BMA has reported that over 80% of general practices in England are already participating in some form of collective action due to concerns over contractual terms and insufficient funding. GP partners in England voted overwhelmingly in favor of collective action with 98.3% of members voting yes in a summer ballot. The BMA is urging GP contractors to start implementing at least one action from a menu of 10 options starting from August 1, 2024. Katie Bramall-Stainer, chair of the BMA’s General Practitioners Committee for England, made a statement on September 13 encouraging GP practices to take action to address the issues facing general practice.
