Cardiologists and vascular surgeons are advocating for regular screenings to prevent complications in those with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). PAD can lead to blocked arteries in the legs, a potential precursor to artery blockages in the brain and heart. The new ESC guidelines recommend personalized treatment plans, including exercise and diet, for the almost 300 million people living with PAD globally. The guidelines also mention a new method to detect PAD, mobile apps for management, and lipid-lowering treatments to reduce cholesterol levels. Additionally, early treatment of blockages with catheters can be an effective alternative to surgery.
