The number of stroke cases, survivors, and deaths have all seen significant increases since 1990. Stroke is highly preventable, with 84% of cases attributed to modifiable risk factors such as air pollution, excess weight, and high blood pressure. The study also highlights the impact of environmental factors and particulate air pollution on stroke risk. New prevention strategies are urgently needed to address this growing crisis, emphasizing the importance of reducing air pollution and implementing population-wide prevention measures.
