A study published in the European Heart Journal found that driving restrictions after implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation negatively impacted patient daily living and employment. Younger patients were more likely to report an impact. The study, which evaluated questionnaire responses from 2,741 patients in Denmark, found that driving restrictions affected the ability to maintain employment and daily living. Among those affected, some reported losing their job, while others resumed driving despite the ban. The researchers suggested that policymakers should consider both public safety and the potential impact on patients’ quality of life when constructing driving recommendations for ICD recipients.
