Belching disorders are defined as excessive belching that interferes with daily life. Approximately 1.5% of adults in Japan have belching disorders, with factors like being male, drinking alcohol, and taking acid reflux medications increasing the likelihood. Gastrointestinal diseases, overeating, and chewing habits also play a role. Treatment for belching disorders is limited, but future research may focus on improving dietary habits and chewing frequency to provide self-treatment options. The findings were published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology after a web survey of 10,000 adults conducted by Professor Yasuhiro Fujiwara of Osaka Metropolitan University’s Graduate School of Medicine.
