The Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement model, a Medicare bundled payment program, was found to be associated with increased rates of home discharge for Hispanic patients compared to white patients. The study analyzed data from over 300,000 total joint arthroplasties performed between 2014 and 2017 in California. The CJR model was linked to higher rates of home discharge among patients with Medicare Advantage, particularly Hispanic patients. However, the study emphasized that the impact of the CJR program varied by patients’ race and ethnicity, and it is important to consider the differential outcomes of Medicare payment policies for minority patient populations.
