Breakthrough technique enables clear visualization of organs in the body

admin

Researchers at Stanford University have developed a new technique that makes overlying tissues transparent to visible light, allowing for better viewing of organs within the body. By using a food-safe dye called tartrazine, researchers were able to achieve transparency in animal subjects and believe it could have significant applications in medical diagnostics. The process involves matching refractive indices to prevent light scattering, enabling light to pass through tissues unimpeded. The research, published in Science, could lead to improved medical procedures such as better vein visibility, simpler tattoo removal, and enhanced cancer detection and treatment. The study was supported by various federal and private grants, including the U.S. National Science Foundation.
