A study published in BMC Public Health found that both short- and long-term use of electronic cigarettes (EC) is associated with an increased risk of various respiratory symptoms in adults. The study used a smartphone app platform to collect real-time data on EC use and respiratory health. Participants were recruited through social media and completed a longitudinal survey over 60 days. Results showed that EC users had higher odds of respiratory symptoms compared to non-users, with short-term use linked to symptoms like cough, phlegm, and shortness of breath, while long-term use was associated with wheeze and eye irritation. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and inform public health policies on vaping products using advancements in mobile technology.
