Link between obesity treatments and metabolic activity – Irish research

admin

New research challenges the belief that weight-loss medications work solely by reducing eating habits. A study led by Prof Donal O’Shea found a link between increased metabolic activity from medications like Ozempic and weight loss. The study involved 30 patients and focused on GLP-1 hormone-based medications. It revealed that those with lower metabolic activity benefitted most from the treatments. Prof O’Shea believes the findings suggest a significant role of metabolic activity in how these drugs work. The study highlights the complexity of obesity treatment and the need for further research in this area. The results were published in the Journal of the Obesity Society and supported by the Health Research Board and University College Dublin.
