The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) has warned that the Government is likely to miss its target to reduce waiting lists by up to 18%. Hospital waiting lists could potentially increase by 74,700 patients this year, with projections showing a significant increase in patients waiting for outpatient appointments, inpatient and day case treatments, and GI endoscopies. The IHCA believes that the total healthcare waiting list is at a record 913,000, calling for the Government to prioritize additional beds and address shortages in hospital facilities. Despite some improvements in waiting times, the overall number of patients waiting for treatment remains high at 712,191.
