Hong Kong-developed mobile stethoscope app detects heart disease

admin

A team from the University of Hong Kong has created an AI-powered mobile app, Vitogram, that uses smartphones as a stethoscope to detect heart disease symptoms. The app analyzes heart sounds by placing the phone on the chest and has shown 81% accuracy in detecting valvular heart disease. The team plans to expand their study and launch the app overseas through Vitome, a spin-off company. With heart diseases ranking third in common causes of death in Hong Kong, this technology allows for early detection and prevention of heart conditions, especially during the pandemic when in-person checkups are limited. Similar innovations like AeviceMD in Singapore are also making strides in detecting respiratory diseases.
