The 2018 International Consensus Meeting criteria may effectively identify periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in revision shoulder arthroplasty. Researchers retrospectively analyzed data from 385 revision shoulder arthroplasties to determine the effectiveness of these criteria in identifying PJI. Patients were categorized into different infection groups based on the criteria, with those in the unlikely infection group showing the highest percentage of virulent organisms from culture. Aspirate results were found to be important in predicting infection. Overall, the study suggests that the 2018 ICM criteria can be useful in identifying PJI in revision shoulder arthroplasty.
