Researchers in China found that an AI model can accurately identify common eye diseases in children using cell phone photos. The study focused on myopia, strabismus, and ptosis, with the AI model performing best in diagnosing ptosis. The model demonstrated high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy in identifying the diseases. Although the photos were taken in a hospital setting, the researchers aim to enable early detection of pediatric eye diseases at home to improve access to medical resources. This study highlights the potential of using AI technology to enhance healthcare and global health standards.
