Intermountain Health is moving its hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado to a new and updated facility about three and a half miles away. The current hospital, founded as a tuberculosis sanitarium in 1905, is outdated and experiencing structural problems such as water leaks and WiFi connectivity issues. The new Lutheran Hospital will be better equipped for modern technology and emergency care, with a helicopter pad on top and improved floor design. The move for about 180 patients is planned for August 3, and the new hospital is designed to be prepared for future pandemics with separate air filtration areas and redundancy systems. The project is estimated to cost $680 million.
