Irish researchers have made a breakthrough in developing a vaccine against the potentially deadly MRSA bacterium. By targeting a key immune molecule during vaccine delivery, they have shown improved protection against infection in animal models. MRSA is a leading cause of bacterial infections with antibiotic resistance on the rise. While finding an effective vaccine has been challenging, this research offers new hope. By neutralizing immune-suppressive molecules, the vaccine’s efficacy was enhanced, leading to improved bacterial clearance in infected subjects. This study, led by TCD Professor Rachel McLoughlin, offers a promising new strategy for developing effective vaccines against MRSA.
