The new Labour government has promised to increase funding for general practice in the NHS in order to improve access to primary care. Health secretary Wes Streeting wants to focus on shifting the NHS out of hospitals and into the community. He has acknowledged that patients are struggling to see a GP and are not receiving timely care, as primary care services have been neglected. Streeting made this announcement during a visit to a general practice in London and emphasized the importance of bringing back the “family doctor” to fix the front door of the NHS.
