At the 2024 Rheumatology Nurses Society conference, it was emphasized that understanding spondyloarthropathy diagnostic criteria is crucial in differentiating between inflammatory and mechanical back pain. Both radiographic and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis are under-diagnosed, with overlapping symptoms among different types of spondyloarthritis. Genetic factors play a role, but clinical diagnosis is more helpful than relying solely on HLA-B27 gene mutation. It was advised to monitor patients for progression and to optimize imaging strategies for early detection and treatment initiation to prevent debilitating consequences.
