Highly accurate AI model can estimate lung function just by using chest X-rays

admin

A research group at Osaka Metropolitan University has developed an AI model that can accurately estimate lung function from chest X-rays. The model was trained using over 140,000 radiographs and showed a high agreement rate with actual spirometric data. This technology could be particularly useful for patients who have difficulty performing spirometry tests, such as infants or individuals with dementia. The AI model has the potential to provide a non-invasive and cost-effective way to assess lung function, reducing the burden on patients and improving medical care. The study was published in The Lancet Digital Health.
