A study has found that individuals with endometriosis are at a four-fold increase in ovarian cancer risk. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pelvic pain and other symptoms. Severe forms of endometriosis, such as deep infiltrating endometriosis, increase the risk of ovarian cancer by 9.7 times. However, experts emphasize that ovarian cancer is rare among women and recommend healthy lifestyle choices to reduce the risk. The study involved analyzing a large dataset of women and found an increased risk of all types of ovarian cancer among those with endometriosis. Counseling and consideration of surgery may be important for women with severe endometriosis.
