A new study published in Cell Reports Medicine reveals that both frequent and infrequent bowel movements can have long-term health implications. Researchers found that individuals who have fewer bowel movements exhibit signs of decreased kidney function, while those who have more than average show signs of impaired liver function. The study categorized participants into four groups based on bowel movement frequency and found that the optimal frequency is once or twice daily. Eating a fiber-rich diet, staying hydrated, and regular exercise can help achieve the ideal bowel movement frequency. Aberrant bowel movements may be a risk factor in the development of chronic diseases.
