Premenstrual disorders in women, such as PMD, could increase the risk of suicide, as shown by a study in Sweden. PMD is caused by abnormal reactions to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, resulting in serotonin deficiency. Severe PMD has been linked to accidents and hypertension, with a 40% increased risk. Research found that women with PMD are twice as likely to die from suicide. The study suggested the need for suicide prevention strategies for women with PMDs, especially those diagnosed at a young age. Further research is necessary to identify underlying causes and develop effective prevention methods. Support is available through crisis helplines.
