Ultra-processed foods linked to insomnia risk

A study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests that consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) may be associated with chronic insomnia in adults. The study found a significant link between UPF consumption and insomnia independent of other factors. Previous research has shown the benefits of healthy dietary patterns on sleep quality. The study, conducted on over 39,000 French adults, found that those with chronic insomnia consumed a higher percentage of their energy intake from UPF. The authors recommend further research to establish causality and suggest that individuals with sleep issues consider evaluating their diet for UPF consumption.
