Ezra Spier, diagnosed with long COVID in late 2022, had to quit his job due to severe fatigue. He joined clinical trials at Stanford and UCSF, leading him to create a website to match patients with trials. The site aims to make trials more accessible and easier to navigate for marginalized patients. Spier’s goal is to improve treatments for long COVID and increase diversity in research participation. Decentralized trials make it easier for bedbound patients to participate. However, eligibility criteria can be a barrier, frustrating patients. Spier remains hopeful that increased participation will lead to better treatments for long COVID.
