Mammals have only 3% of the genome as coding genes, with enhancers controlling the activation or deactivation of these genes that influence bone growth. A team from the University of Geneva identified 2700 enhancers that regulate genes responsible for bone growth, shedding light on factors affecting adult size and bone malformations. Through innovative techniques, they studied the activity of these enhancers in mouse embryos with fluorescent bones to understand their role in bone development. The discovery of these enhancers in humans may explain variations in size and contribute to understanding genetic causes of bone diseases and other developmental pathologies.
