Tackling challenges in childhood arthritis transition to adult care

admin

Rheumatological diseases, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), can affect children, with a need for increased awareness and effective transition from pediatric to adult care. The European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) included sessions on childhood arthritis at its 2024 congress. Low awareness of childhood arthritis leads to delays in diagnosis and negative outcomes. Initiatives to raise awareness, such as those by Juvenile Arthritis Research, have been successful in reaching thousands of people and reducing stigma. Research in Italy focused on improving the transition process from pediatric to adult care, highlighting challenges such as lack of information and coordination. The goal is to lessen burdens and improve outcomes for young arthritis patients.
