A recent analysis of national data over the past 15 years found that the risk of these violent deaths peaks at night. Factors such as nocturnal wakefulness, age, alcohol use, and relationship conflicts contribute to this increased risk. Researchers believe that being awake at night impairs rational thinking and decision-making, leading to impulsive behaviors. The study found that suicide risk peaks at 3 a.m. for young adults and at 6 a.m. for older adults, while homicides happen more frequently among young adults.
