A study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health surveyed low-income adults in Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas, finding that one in eight Medicaid enrollees since March 2020 lost coverage by late 2023. Of those disenrolled, nearly half were uninsured. Disenrollment rates varied by state, with higher rates among younger, rural, and employed individuals. Disenrolled individuals reported worse access to healthcare, including cost-related care delays and skipped medications. The study highlights the need for policies to mitigate adverse outcomes related to Medicaid disenrollment, especially for continuity of coverage. The research was funded by the Commonwealth Fund and the Episcopal Health Foundation.
