Should we ditch BMI and use the ‘body roundness index’ instead?

Body mass index (BMI) has been a common tool to assess body fat levels, but it has limitations for certain populations. A new metric called the body roundness index (BRI) may be a more accurate alternative as it focuses on body shape and fat distribution rather than just size. BRI is calculated based on height and waist circumference and has been shown to be better at predicting health risks associated with body fat levels. While BRI shows promise, more research is needed to determine if it should replace BMI. Other methods, such as 3D body surface imaging, may provide more accurate and comprehensive assessments of health.
