The Royal College of General Practitioners has advised general practices to stop recruiting physician associates (PAs) until regulation and scope of practice guidance is finalized. A consultation found that half of GPs had witnessed patient safety issues related to PAs. The RCGP recommends that practices review their recruitment plans and halt additional recruitment of PAs until they are regulated. The BMA has also called for a freeze on PA recruitment. The RCGP is working on guidance for scope of practice, induction, and supervision for PAs, which is expected to be published by the end of the year.
