Researchers conducted a study on the effects of tirzepatide on adults with obesity and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They found that tirzepatide reduced the apnea index, body weight, inflammation, hypoxia, and blood pressure while improving sleep-related outcomes. Current OSA treatments like positive airway pressure therapy have limited efficacy, leading to the need for alternative options. Tirzepatide, a GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, showed promising results in reducing OSA symptoms by addressing obesity and related complications. The study involved two phase III trials, demonstrating tirzepatide’s ability to improve sleep quality and reduce cardiovascular risk factors in adults with OSA and obesity, suggesting its potential as a treatment option.
