The leading medical unions in Ireland are urging the HSE to end the recruitment freeze in the health service. The ICTU group of healthcare unions is advocating for the publication of the 2024 pay and numbers strategy. They are concerned about the impact of the recruitment freeze on patient safety and staff morale due to understaffing in healthcare services. The group is calling for the timely recruitment of over 2,200 staff and 701 posts for the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. If the HSE does not address these issues, unions may consider industrial action.
