Losing weight can lower risk for developing obesity-related cancers

admin

A study presented at the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions showed that adults with obesity who reduce their body weight can lower their odds of developing obesity-related cancers. Researchers analyzed data from over 100,000 adults with obesity and found that a decrease in BMI over 3, 5, and 10 years intervals was associated with a decreased risk of cancer. Lower odds were also seen for specific types of cancer, such as esophageal adenocarcinoma, multiple myeloma, and renal cell carcinoma. These findings emphasize the importance of weight loss as a preventative measure for cancer in individuals with obesity.
